Great choice

As expected, working fine and delivering on its value. Will try flying in the next couple of weeks, but already the bike fits in perfectly. Great product to be recommended!

Best soft case option for flyers

It's important to understand options and uses when choosing a travel case, especially at these price levels. If you want max protection and are willing to pay overweight fees and a bit more time dis/assembling as part of the process, go for a hard case. If you want easier packing and depending on bike weight and airline, potentially fee-free check-in, a soft case like this is your best option but somewhat less protection.

I've used an excellent competitor's soft case on roughly 40 "flights" (instances within a trip of case being loaded onto/off a plane), and while the bikes have generally survived without damage I decided to pick this up hoping to solve some specific issues. I haven't flown with this yet, but after a couple dry runs packing/unpacking and based on my experience, I am confident this is nearly perfect. For reference, I'm using my largest road bike, 58mm frame and 44cm bar width and it fits without issues.

The process of dis/assembling the bike could not be simpler. The minimum effort required is removing the wheels and left side pedal. I'd additionally recommend removing the other pedal, brake rotors, and the rear derailleur. There is decent protection for the wheels and DR, but in my experience airlines will load this flat and throw heavy luggage on top to find a way to bend a rotor or hanger bracket. I purchased the optional derailleur bag and it's well worth it and holds the loose DR perfectly.

The adjustable bottom frame brace holds the bike securely, and the built-in straps add more security to prevent side-to-side rocking that could damage fork or frame.

The standard case also includes small wraps for top tube and added padding for the handlebars but the handlebar padding is minimal. The padding kit I bought also included a much better wrap for bars/shifters. I'd recommend that for higher end cockpits/shifters.

My total packing time took under 10 minutes, compared to 15+ for my previous bag. I found this much easier/less struggle to zip everything up, plenty of room for my bike. I'd also stress that I did not have to remove or adjust my cockpit at all, which I consider critical for my integrated bar/stem setup. I also didn't have to lower the seat, though this might be a good idea if you mark the height to reset upon arrival.

The entire bag/system is just perfectly designed for ease of use, plenty of clear illustrations and labels built into the bag itself. It even comes with a light storage bag.

The only tweak I'd recommend, based on my personal experience, would be to also buy replacement casters/wheels, or if you're handy with tools, replace them with plug-in/removable casters. The standard casters are excellent, roll well, but are exposed and prone to getting caught/broken by baggage handling equipment. They are similar to my previous bag, and over my first 8 flights with that bag, I lost at least one of the 2 exposed casters on every single flight. I found removable casters online for about $20/pair, easily replaced the standard ones with them, and have had zero problems since then. I simply roll up to check-in, pull out the casters, drop them into the side pocket, then plug them back in at baggage claim. Some of Scicon's competitors already use this type of caster, and I intend to replace the standard ones on this bag as well.

Overall, though, I absolutely love this bag and highly recommend it. It's excellent as-is, even better if purchasing the companion kit with additional padding. There's a reason the so many pros use this (and my other bag is probably the second most common bag in the peloton).
